Thame Motorsport Club Treasure Hunt 2005

Sunday 19th June 2005 - Organised by Rob Slingerland and Liz Kirby

Report by Peter Wood

The Annual Treasure hunt was booked on a busy weekend, with a couple of likely entries (Nick Vine and Steve Vokes) on their annual pilgrimage to Le Mans, and a few members tied up with Fathers Day type family commitments.

Nevertheless a few calls and E-mails attracted a good entry of 8 crews for the 30 miles through the delightful Bucks and Oxon countryside. The event started and finished at “our” pub, the Red Lion, Haddenham, and Rob + Liz again organised an excellent BBQ to greet the returning combatants.

The route took us through Cuddington, Chilton, Brill, Lugershall, Grendon Underwood, Wooton Underwood, Wooton, and back through Cuddington and the finish. I saw several bemused locals on the route as we went up and down a road looking for an elusive clue, and the lady outside the windmill at Brill sighed when I asked her how high it was, and she asked if I was also on a Treasure Hunt!

There was the usual outcry at the results and arguments on the number of chimneys, weather vanes etc. will rumble on for months! Rob declared that the Stewards had failed to attend and so his decision was final – I’ve never been to a Treasure Hunt where there wasn’t a healthy debate afterwards, it’s half the charm of the event!

The Team names, scores, and crews were as follows:

Treasure Hunt Results

Place Team Points Members
1 The Girls  75 Tonia and Zania Heap.
2 Bull + Bitches 74 ˝ Brian Cammack and family.
3 Virgin Drivers 73 Lynn + Andy.
4 Woodentops  72 ˝ Pete + Chris Wood.
5 Double Barrels 71 Paul, Ruth, Steve Scott-Smith.
6 Sports Car 68 Bob + Cath Barker.
7 Domestics  66 Julz, Jason Hutson and better halves.
8 Eure- Ka 56 Richard Wood, David Wood, Emily.

As you can see it was all very close, but the girls scored an excellent victory (those at the gravel Autotest will remember how competitive they are!).

Thanks again to Rob and Liz for all the time and effort in putting together a great event and the BBQ was also excellent.
