Coulter's Chaos Rally Team
Julz has owned the Kadett for 14 years. It's self built on a shoe string budget. Julian says he really just loves
competing (as under dogs). Competes mainly on National B Tarmac Rallies but is aiming for forest / gravel events by the end
of 2003. Normally hitches up alongside Andy Corner.

The Team
Driver: Julian Coulter Started rallying in April 2001. 1st event: Mini Tempest Stages Longcross, Chertsey.
Highlight: SM Roofing stages, August 2001 - 48th overall, 5th in class - inc. 5 spins, had 2 "2 wheel"
moments, no screens, trashed exhaust, driveshafts, 1 panel undented!
Co-Driver: Jason Hutson 1st event: Mini Tempest Stages, Longcross, Chertsey. Highlight: Abingdon 2002: 39th
overall, 7th in class. inc. slipping clutch for 5 stages, seized rear shocks, and 1 carb rattled free stage 10, Overtaking
class D cars!
The Car
Model: Opel Kadett SR.
Engine: 1.6 Litres, 8 valve.
Power: 131 bhp @ 6250 rpm.
Torque: 112 ft/lb @ 5000 rpm.
Noise: 97db @ 4500 rpm.
Detailed Modifications
Engines
Mods: 40 Webers, 2 inch K&N filters, lighter pistons, skimmed to 10.5:1 comp ratio, adjusted distributor timing, head
ported, large 3 angled valves & seats, Ast 4 camshaft, std manifold to 2 inch exhaust, adjustable rev limiter, Mk II Ali
rad.
Transmission: 1800 MkII Atra GTE driveshafts, self made short shift gear stick, five speed f16 gearbox with
altered ratios. soon to be fitted with plated limited slip differential.
Chassis: Seam welded, full triangulated weld in cage, Ali stage tank, perspex side & rear glazed front
bonnet scoop, additional roof venting, ali foot plates.
Brakes: Converted existing front non-vented std disc & callipers to rear, fronts converted to 256/20mm
mk3 cavalier (brakes self crossdrilled), self built brake pedal biasing box, hydraulic hand brake, adjustable rear bias
valve.
Suspension: fronts: Struts MkII Astra items self built to adjustable height for 2.5 inch springs, Bilstein
forest front shocks, solid spherical top mounts, polyurethane bushes, 300 lb springs, 100 lb helper springs. Rears:
polyurethane bushes, Decarbon tarmac shocks shortened, std shortened rear springs.
Steering: low ratio steering rack, with bulkhead supports, 15 inch steering wheel, adjustable
camber set to 2.5 deg.
Service Crew
Service crew all friends crew run by Housey A.K.A. (wizard/chief mechanic) including
Macey (mechanic/stress manager), Chris (panel beater/Hammer mad), Reg (Tyres/Tools) & Bones (Tyres/Screens also known as
the rain man) all mat together as a finely tuned beer & laughter machine consuming aprox 10 gal/mile!!!
