James Walters / Duncan Gamage
Duncan & James originally jointly bought their 1984 Golf GTI Mk 2 in May 2001 for £350 to do a Sandocross event at
Weston-super-Mare. The car had not been expected to survive beyond the event. However, two years later, following continued
abuse at numerous track days ranging from Llandau circuit in
Wales to Castle Coombe the car was still with us, costing very little in running costs, and proving reliable. So James
decided to spend his entire life savings on turning the car into a basic rally car, with safety devices cage, Duncan’s
old Motodrive seats, extinguishers and a sump guard off a 205 GTI (Thanks to Neil Cuss!)
Car is currently recovering from TMC tyre test when car received some non standard bodywork ventilation holes after a
meeting with a steel girder. However, Duncan assures me the car will be back in action again soon (maybe Abingdon if I can
get an entry).
