Three Sisters Rally, Wigan

10th November 2002: Andy Corner out again with Erik West in the trusty 205 on the event based around a Karting circuit!  Event attracted an entry of 60+, lead away by a Metro 6R4. The stages were pretty short, with Andy taking only 1minute 52 seconds on SS1! By SS2 was up to 14th Overall, but only 3 seconds away from 9th. Andy said not all the stages were short, and was hitting 5th several times, as he steadily improved his position through the afternoon to finish 11th Overall and win the class of 12.

Pheasant Plucker Road Rally

10th November 2002: Chairman Brian Cammack out navigating for Mike Cawthra (ex-TMC) in a Subaru. Thirty-two entries for this 170 miler, with 51 time controls and loads of route checks. Brian admits to missing three boards, but as they averaged one every 3 1/2 miles that’s not bad! The car ran faultlessly all night and they finished 8th overall.

Bulldog Rally - Kumho Tyres National Rally Championship

19th October: Matt Humphris & Andy Cadle The Bulldog Rally, based in Shrewsbury was the final round of the 2002 Kumho Tyres National Rally Championship. Matt & Andy already had an unassailable lead in Class A5 (group A up to 1400cc) and merely had to start the event to become Class A5 National Champions. With this task completed they went on to finish 53rd of the 86 National starters, despite a couple of visits to the ditches on what proved to be a very slippery rally. The conditions claimed many competitors including three 4WD cars off on one corner but the Nissan Micra again proved totally reliable. The conditions were so difficult that of the 160 cars that started the rally (including the clubmans and historic events) 50 crews failed to make it to the finish.

6th October: We attracted a field of 13 for this the second Club Autotest of the year at Great Haseley.

It was a bright sunny late autumn afternoon, but a little chilly. Andy Corner had started the Skoda for the first time in two years on the morning of the event, but it didn’t miss a beat all day.

The Suzuki got stuck in two gears when Matt went a little too quickly from first to reverse, but a team of competitors soon had it jacked up, and 20 minutes to free the ‘box saw Matt complete the rest of the tests.

Thanks to the timekeepers Peter Wood, Andy Cadle and Nigel Hoyle; and Dave Galbraith found time to both compete and work out the results.

Brian hopes to run a three-event championship next year at the same farm but different field.

Oxford MC Bullnose Road Rally

7th-8th September: Brian Cammack was out co-driving with Ex-TMC member Mike Cawthra in his 2001 Subaru Imprezza Turbo. Start and finish was from Membury Services and featured a 120-mile route on map 174, marred by some fog patches. There were 40 starters in vehicles ranging from a Fiesta 1100 to a full GpN Subaru.

All went well over the first half, dropping only 36 seconds to be 6th overall. 2nd half was more challenging, with Brian needing to take a tow (i.e. lost, so follow another competitor) over one section of complex navigation. Brian said that the Subaru flies well – well airborne at 80mph+ over an unmarked humpback! At finish looked to be 6th, but then hit with 30 minutes of penalties. After a discussion managed to get 20m dropped, but forced to take 10m, dropping them to 11th overall.
