The Thame Motorsport Karting Extravaganza
Klub Kart Racing, Aylesbury - Tuesday 8th November 2005
Report by James Walters
Tuesday 8th November saw the clubs first karting event for nearly two years. James managed to persuade Klub Kart Racing
to let the club extend the race to an hour and a half after a much better than expected level of interest from club members.
We started the event with seven teams of three. The organisers decided that as we had a large number of relative karting
novices wishing to join in, that it would be a good idea to mix up all the teams to try and even out the performance level
of each team. It also presented a great opportunity for club members to mix with other members.
The teams were: -
Team Tailenders
James Walters
Ryan Wainwright-Fisher
Tom Dornin
|
Team Chaos
Mick Gregory
Emily Davis
David Wood
|
Team Diff Lock
Duncan Gamage

The event started with each driver having a five minute qualifying session. This gave the race its grid, with Duncan
setting fastest lap, closely followed by James, and Brian. Andy Corner pipped son Dan to take 4th, and Rob just headed off
Mick Gregory for the final places.
The race was started to the classic F1 theme tune of Fleetwood Mac’s "chain", with a swift change at the
front, with Full Chat grabbing the lead, and the team captain of Milker's weekly being given the dubious honour of the
evenings first "Sin Binning". Farmers weekly moved into second place by lap 30, but Diff Lock reasserted its
dominance by retaking the lead around lap 45.
The middle of the race saw Milker's weekly rising up the order, helped by the replacement of badly worn front tyres,
However, Half Cocked , Team Chaos, and Full Chat were still battling for 2nd and 3rd place, with regular position changes.
David Wood was putting up a particularly good fight for Team Chaos. However, Milker's Weekly were the team on the move, and
they battled themselves into 3rd place with 40 minutes remaining. Positions then remained static for the remainder of the
race, although the winning margin between Diff Lock and Half Coked was just 3.8 seconds, with Milker's Weekly finishing
third, two laps behind, despite setting the lap record of 27.56 seconds, just 0.02 secs faster than Diff Locks fastest time,
and 0.05 secs faster than the Tail Enders, third fastest lap. The latter had a committed final session, with James fighting
hard to reduce the 11 lap deficit. However, at the end, the best he could do was reducing the deficit to just 2 laps from
the nearest rival. Better luck next time Tail Enders!
The final results were: -
Position Team Name Laps Fastest Lap
1st Diff Lock 173 laps 0.27.58
2nd Half Cocked +0.03.87 0.28.16
3rd Milker's Weekly +1 laps 0.27.56
4th Farmers Weekly +1 laps 0.28.07
5th Team Chaos +0.00.59 0.28.23
6th Full Chat +0.13.25 0.27.78
7th Tail Enders +2 laps 0.27.61
Fantastic efforts by one and all, and some great grins supported by everyone at the end, particularly the
Girls.
Many thanks have to go to the team at Klub Kart Racing, as well to the Corner fan club for venturing out on a wet night.
Bring on the next one….. |
